With each new book in the series, I grow more impatient yet a little bit sad as I know that there are not many more books left till the conclusion of this fantastic series. Until the time comes for me to say goodbye, I consume these books with glee. Every time I think that Reisz can’t get any better, she proves me wrong.

Before I started reading this book, I’ll admit that I was a bit apprehensive, especially as I had read that there would be little or no Nora in this book. Yes, we were getting more backstory to Kingsley and Soren, but I was wondering at what price. I needn’t have worried because this book more than lived up to the books that preceded it.

The sub plot of this book seemed to concern Grace and her son, along with their connection to Soren. I was never too sure what purpose this served, other than allowing Kingsley to explain how he came about with the infamous club, The 8th Circle. The majority of this book takes a retrospective look at the events that led up to Kingsleys acquisition of the club.

This was really interesting chapter in Kingsley’s life and it showed how he evolved from the lost soul, who was spending his days screwing and drinking through New York, until Nora (or Eleanor as she was known then) becomes entangled in her father’s illegal activities. Soren is forced to turn to Kingsley to help get a more lenient sentence for her.

For the first time in ages, Kingsley begins to feel alive when Soren comes back into his life. Soren gives him something to live for, that and the fact that a far right Church group threatens his lifestyle choices and the lines of battle are drawn.

For all intents and purposes, this is Kingsley’s book. This chronicles his rise from nightclub owner, to the man who knows all the secrets of the people who matter in New York. Watching the metamorphosis of Kingsley to his role as ruler of the underground BDSM, is a brilliant character study. Apart from Soren, Kingsley has always been one of my favourite characters and this book does nothing to diminish this.

However, the evolution of Kingsley couldn’t happen without the people who bring about the Kingsley we know and love. Soren and Nora do play a big part of this, but it is two new characters that really do accelerate him growing as person.

The biggest influence has to be Sam, a new character in Kingsley’s past who battles Nora for my big girl crush in the series. She has experienced first-hand what Reverend Fuller, the man on a moral journey to rid society of his opinion of perversions on society. She was sent to one of Fuller’s camps in order to “Cure” her Lesbianism. She is invested in bringing him down due to a horrible incident that happened at her time there. Kingsley takes her under his wing, but she helps to heal him, as much as he helps her get justice.

Sam really was one of the most complex and interesting characters in the whole book. She was sweet and yet tough as nails. She showed a deep loyalty to Kingsley, even when I thought she had double crossed him. I do hope we get to see where she is before the book ends.

The other character that was responsible for the evolution of Kingsley has to be Reverend Fuller. His mission to eradicate Kingsley’s lifestyle and more importantly the threat he posed to people like Soren, Nora and others in their circle, gives him a purpose he had lacked since he was discharged from the Foreign Legion due to injury.

VERDICT
Reisz has really created a fully fleshed out world that is multi-faceted. Everything seems so natural and has a flow to it that just sucks you in. There are scenes that make you laugh out loud (Soren and Kingsley getting drunk) or are so deeply erotic and sensual that you have to fan yourself. While the next minute your heart is breaking at what these characters have gone through (Sam in the church camp).

She really does have a wonderful gift at making you care for every character that enters our originally trinity’s sphere. Each character has a purpose on Nora, Soren and/or Kingsleys development as person. They are living, breathing people to the reader, well at least to me.

Reisz shows how great erotic romance can truly be and is an author I recommend to anyone who loves a well written, complex and sexy series. Tiffany Reisz, along with Samantha Young are two authors who are on my instant buy list.

RATING:
5 star
