COSY CATCH UP – 19th December 2016

Cosy Catch Up. banner

It’s that time of year where it seems that the  hours slip by quickly and you wonder where the time has gone. This has been the case for me as many of you will have noticed that I didn’t post like I promised I would. This really has been due to a number of things and i just never got round to it. So, here is a quick cosy catch up. I hope it won’t be the last book of the year.

Right now, I have 7 books to read in order to reach my year end Goodreads Goal of 70. This is looking like it may not be met, but I still have 12 days to try and meet this, so I am going to give it my best shot. To be honest, I’m really not liking my chances much at all. We live in hop.

in-order-to-liveSince my last post, I have finished 4 books. The first book was my book club read, In Order To Live by Yeonmi Park. This is a book that everyone should read, for it shines a light into a world that is closed off from the rest of the world. At times, I felt as if I was reading some sort of dystopian fantasy, but that little voice in the back of my head kept reminding me that this was happening on the other side of the world. This would not be my usual choice of reading, but after finishing it I would definitely read more about this subject.

stellas-christmas-wishThe second book that I finished was Stella’s Christmas Wish by Kate Blackadder. This was a very different Christmas themed book, for normally it has some sort of Romance with boy meeting girl in a meet/cute situation. Instead this was very much about the one that got away and having to face the ghosts of the past. As a debut novel, it was very good and I am keeping an eye out for the authors next book. You can find my full review HERE.

The last two books I have finished were Fighting to Be Free and Worth Fighting For by Kirsty Moseley. These were the second and third books I have read by this author with the first being Reason’s Not To Fall In Love.

Fighting to Be Free was a great twist on the Bad Boy from the wrong side of the tracks and the Good Girl, with a promising future falling in love. I quickly found myself zipping through the book and at times I couldn’t put it down as I wanted to see where the story was going.

While I really liked Fighting to be Free, I loved Worth Fighting For. From the opening page I could just see the massive change and improvement in the authors style and technique. This was one rollercoaster of a ride and there was one part that really got to me emotionally. Reading this at work was not a good idea and I had to fight back the tears. Do look out for my reviews for these books which will be up very soon.

As for books that I am currently reading, I have three books on the go at various stages.

From last month, I am still reading Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. This is a big book, but the biggest stumbling block for me finishing it was the fact that I wasn’t fully engaged with the characters and the story. I kept finding myself skipping chapters to get to my favourite characters Point of View. I do hope to get back to this very soon, but right now I have many other books that are scrambling for my attention.

If you have read my 20 Books of Winter post, you would have seen I hoped to start reading the Harry Potter Series. I have managed to start reading Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone and so far I am liking it. When it first came out, I had no real interest in the series as it seemed to be more aimed at children. I have watched most of the films, so I am not completely in the dark about the series, but even six chapters in, I see many differences. I think I am going to keep going with this series.

The final book I am currently reading is The Trouble With Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis. I decided I needed something a bit more light and fluffy to read. This latest book by Jill Shalvis seemed to fit the bill and it was also on my 20 Books of Winter post. I’m not too far into it, but it is very entertaining.

That’s everything from me this time and I am sorry that it hasn’t been sooner.  Please do feel free to comment below with what you have read, are reading or are planning to. Until next time, bye!
